2008 Review
2008
Wednesday, 15 October 2008 00:00

Each LOGOV breaks new attendance records, and despite a big increase in car-park sizes, vehicles were still on the look-out for a spare space. This very popular public works engineering tradeshow was sold out months before the event, with some 27 companies being too late to be accommodated. Organisers decided to keep the size of the show to its present manageable area, to give visitors a chance to walk through all exhibits in one day.

Council staff from regions such as Casino in the south to Cairns in the north and even Longreach in the west were seen at LOGOV Expo 2008. Rockhampton, Warwick, Toowoomba, Pittsworth, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast all sent staff to shop at the show. In addition, delegates from the state conference, also being held in Logan, spent the Wednesday afternoon at LOGOV, with one of the delegates, Mr Ross Chapman, being the lucky one winning a luxury long-weekend at Palazzo Versace, along with two other patrons visiting on the buses, picking up a similar prize.

Logan City Mayor, Cr Pam Parker and Chair of Works, Cr Lynne Clarke, both officiated at the official opening and prizes for best exhibits were awarded in eight categories. Deputy Works Chairman, Cr Ray Hackwood, agreed to assist organisers in the judging of best sites. Visitors were welcomed by IPWEAQ President, Mr Patrick Murphy and Chairman, Mr Peter Way, thanked the councillors on behalf of the Foundation.

On behalf of LOGOV, I particularly thank our 2008 sponsors, Logan City, Coates, Moreton Hire, Ezy-Drive, Komatsu, Earthmover and Civil Contractor magazine, C-M Concrete Products, Vac-U-Digga, Humes, Smartstream, Rocla Pipeline Products and All Park Products.

Roving entertainment this year included Tony Ashby’s jazz trio, the River City Clippers with their wonderful harmonies and entertainer, magician and MC, Eric Summons. The weather was very kind to us and allowed the full program, including some demonstrations of new plant, to be undertaken without interruption.

Organisers are already planning some significant changes to the layout and facilities for the 2010 show which will again be held at Meakin Park in the first week of October.
